N01 First Street

Manchester City Centre

What:

First phase in regenerating this prominent gateway site.

Why:

Expansion of the regional centre and a joint venture with Manchester City Council provided an opportunity for this brownfield site to become the heart and focus of a distinctive new neighbourhood of the city.

How:

First Street benefits from a 3m sq ft MCC-endorsed masterplan and the First Street Development Framework which guides large scale redevelopment in this part of the city.  The first phase comprised a speculative Grade A 180,000 sq ft BREEAM Excellent commercial office building together with the first phase of public realm, creating the first 110m of the 300m core spine featuring landscaping, trees, sculptures and seating areas.  The building helped to establish First Street as a credible business destination for the city and is now renamed N01 Tony Wilson Place.

We created:

  • BREEAM Excellent office building now home to Auto Trader, Jacobs, and Ford Credit
  • Borehole array
  • Public Square
  • Initial phase of First Street boulevard
